Rocky Mountain National Park offers some of the most breathtaking settings for an elopement, from towering peaks to serene alpine lakes. Whether you’re dreaming of exchanging vows with a mountain backdrop or surrounded by lush meadows, this guide will help you plan your perfect day. We’ll cover stunning locations, important permits, and practical tips to ensure your elopement in the park is as smooth and memorable as the views.
Nestled in Estes Park, Colorado, Rocky Mountain National Park offers some of the most iconic views in the state. With towering peaks, alpine lakes, and vast open spaces, it’s a perfect backdrop for an elopement. It’s a place where you can immerse yourself in nature while celebrating your love in an awe-inspiring setting.
To elope or getting married inside the park, you will need a $300 Special Use Permit. These permits are for designated locations where you can have your ceremony and say your vows. Keep in mind that the permit doesn’t grant exclusive access to these locations, so they will be open to public access during your ceremony.
Applications for the Special Use Permits open up one year in advance and are given out on a first-come-first-serve basis.
Wedding Permit holders will NOT need to get a Timed Entry Reservation, however your guests will. Parking spaces can be limited and there is always a chance of traffic, so carpooling is encouraged.
If you missed the deadline to get a Wedding Permit, or you don’t have a preference of saying your vows in the park, an alternative is picking a spot in the surrounding Estes Park area to say your vows, and head into Rocky Mountain National Park with a Timed Entry Permit to celebrate, adventure and take photos.

Leave No Trace is a crucial principle to follow when eloping in Rocky Mountain National Park to help preserve its beauty for future generations. This means minimizing your impact on the environment by packing out all trash, staying on designated trails, and respecting wildlife from a distance. Avoid leaving any permanent marks or decorations, and be mindful of the park’s delicate ecosystems. By following Leave No Trace guidelines, you’ll help protect the park’s pristine landscape and ensure that others can enjoy its beauty just as you did.
As someone who eloped, I understand the desire for a day that’s completely about you and your partner. It’s a chance to celebrate your love in a way that feels true to who you are.
